Cosmovitral

The Cosmovitral is a Botanical garden of: 3500 m ² which is with Toluca, capital of the State of Mexico City. History

Its construction begins on February 9th, 1909 and with the purpose to be completed in 1910 and to celebrate the festivals of the centenary of the independence of Mexico. It is engineer Manuel Arriata which one asks for the project of a market. The foundry and the steel-works of Monterey take care of the structure or the metal reinforcement of the building. The firm market in 1975 and after five years of refitting, the building is reopened with the public as a Botanical Cosmovitral-Garden on July 5th, 1980.

Collections

The town of Toluca is located at: 2430 m of altitude, which implies a climate moderated with relatively cold winters for the area. Thus of many plants do not resist it. The conditions similar to a greenhouse is found inside Cosmovitral allow the survival of tropical plants.

This particular greenhouse shelters more than 400 species of plants coming from Central America and South America, but also from Africa and Asia, including/understanding lily, pink S, Mexican Orchidée S, bird of paradise, Cyprès and Fougère S.
