Cosmos 1999 ( Space: 1999 ) is a British Televised series , in 48 episodes 47 minutes, created by Gerry Anderson and Sylvia Anderson and diffused between the September 4th 1975 and the May 7th 1978 on ITV. In France, the first season was diffused starting from the December 13rd 1975 on TF1. The second, as well as the new episodes of the first, will be diffused of August 1987 in February 1988 on the Five. Symbolically, the chain cables/satellite Série Club will also propose it… on September 13rd, 1999. TF1 Vidéo left the integral the series in DVD (12 discs + 1 disc no-claims bonus) in June 2002.

Synopsis

In 1999, the Ground stores its nuclear waste on the the Moon where it already installed a named lunar base Alpha. The September 13rd, a Explosion of these stocks causes such a chain reaction that the Moon leaves the terrestrial Orbite then the Solar system. In the incapacity to regain the Earth, the 311 survivors ordered by the charismatic one ordering Koenig, wander on the star in cosmos and face all kinds of dangers. Only two seasons of episodes were turned: the first, considered by the majority of its admirors as the essential one, undoubtedly approached with excess of the philosophical topics. The second, posting even too much spectacle to touch the American public which had not accepted the first version, contributed to the oddment.

Comments

Created by the father of the Sentinels of the air , this series was a considerable success in particular in Great Britain, France and with the Japan where it strongly influenced the graphics of some Manga S. the use for the first time of the classical music (the Adagio of Albinoni in " The Field of the dragon" (1-23)) but especially its graphics in the whole of the series, points out the universe of the film 2001, the odyssey of space , because several people cooperated with two works.

The director of the special effects, Brian Johnson, and the majority of the members of its team then worked on Alien - the eighth passenger and the Empire counter-attacks .

This series is to some extent the continuation of the transitory series UFO, alert in space ( UFO ) created in 1970 by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

Gerry Anderson had been seen imposing the constraint that the future series was not to proceed on the Earth, from where the idea of a lunar base projected out of the solar system.

The audience of the first season of Cosmos 1999 having been disappointing in the United States, it was decided to bring several changes for the second. Thus, the character of Victor Bergman was eliminated, the character of Maya was added and the vast command center of the Alpha base was replaced by a smaller and underground checkpoint (officially for safety reasons). More basically, one gave up the discussion thread of the first season, that is to say the concept that the epopee of the inhabitants of Alpha had a finality, to adopt a more conventional approach based on special effects and new malicious at each week. The second season of the series is liked of both in the majority of the countries.

Particular detail, although the French doubling of this series was made in Quebec by the company Cinélume (Montreal), one does not find any French sound track on the DVD of Cosmos 1999 available to Quebec. In France, the DVD take again Québécois doubling.
