Cosme II of Médicis

Cosme II (Florence 1590 - 1621), weak and morbid, made close the bank of the Médicis, source of richness of the family. It protected nevertheless Galileo, his former tutor. With her death, his/her mother Christine of Lorraine and his wife Marie Madeleine of Austria disputed regency, and, extremely excessively pious women, supported the Enquiry which condemned Galileo.
