Corporatism

The corporatism is a term referring to two concepts. It is initially about economic doctrines and Sociale based on the regrouping of different Trade association within Institution S defending their interests. By extension, this term qualifies also the use of economic, social and political capacities by certain powerful groups seeking only to defend their interests or the interest of their members to the detriment of the general interest. One can then regard it as a Economic system.

Corporatism like social organization

Corporatism is the defense of an organization economic, social, even political, resting on professional corporations. This ideology initially seems to be promoted by the social Christian movements , in reference to a idealized Moyen-âge. It then reappeared at the end of the 19th century century in search for a third way economic and social between the revolutionary liberal Capitalisme and ideologies (Marxisme, Anarchisme).

The ideology supporter of corporatism knew a great vogue in the years 1930, making it possible to make the synthesis of several movements of divergent appearance:

  • the néo-traditionalism preached by the extreme line (French Action, Young right-hand side, etc), the Nonconformist of the Thirties, etc). There it is a question of joining again with a organic Société, in which the individuals are not any more of the isolated and competitor nomads, as in liberalism, but the components of only one body of which each one has its place and a role to be played for the good of the unit.
  • searchs for a socialism modern, nonMarxist, by the means of the Planning, the activity by professional branches and social negotiations by professional branches (see Néo-socialism).
  • the search for a company more organized, rational, carried out by the engineers technocrats (Auguste Detœuf, Group X-Crisis, etc).

Among the movements supporters of corporatism and nonconformists, much approached, temporarily or not, certain forms of Fascisme.

These movements, in the devastated French economy post- Second world war, however contributed to the emergence of modern France (thanks to the Planification or with the collective bargains).

At the end of the Glorious Thirty, the movements supporters of corporatism perduré, in spite of their maladjustment with a ripe economy.
