Cornimont (the Vosges)

Cornimont is a commune of the North-East of the France, in the department of the the Vosges and the canton of Saulxures-on-Moselotte. It belongs to the urban Aire of the Bresse and of the Communauté of communes of the High Moselotte.
Its inhabitants is called Counehets.
Geography
Cornimont is located at 25 km of Remiremont, 20 km of Gérardmer, 35 km of Thann and 12 km of the Thillot. Its culminating point is the Grand Ventron, to 1205 m of altitude, and the point low is to 493 Mr.The heart of the city niche in the valley of the Moselotte, between the Bresse and Saulxures, but the settlement is dispersed: the hamlet of Xoulces occupies a valley without exit ( valley of the Xoulces ), that of Travexin is located in direction of Ventron and of the Thillot, the adrets saw the establishment of farms then of country cottages: the Right of Cornimont , the Right of Xoulces , Parfongoutte , the the Brabant …
History
Uninhabited before the 7th century, the high valley of Moselotte was borrowed to connect the Monastère S of Remiremont and Munster. Gradually, of the colonies fixed themselves on this way. A popular tradition would like that the common car its name of a horn of aurochs forgotten by Charlemagne at the time of a shooting party in the wild forests of the High-Vosges which he appreciated. Among more scientific interpretations, Albert Dauzat sees in Cornimont a pointed mount, having the shape of a horn; as for Negro Ernest, it thinks rather of the mount of Cornicus , name of anybody of Latin origin.
The village dates approximately from the 10th century. First known mention: Cournimont (1345). It depended then on the baronnery of Faucogney.
The May 18th 1833, the section of Traxevin is attached to Cornimont. This old commune is equipped with a church.
Cornimont knew a strong expansion at the end of the 19th century which saw the establishment of several factories Textile S, on the initiative of Georges Perrin. Since the crisis of this industry, the population strongly fell.

Monument Our-Lady-of-the-Peace: set up in 1952, following a wish of the Bihr canon, priest of the city in 1940, which wished that the borough not be destroyed by the occupant. The monument represents the Virgin extending her hands in direction of the valley.
