Cornil

Cornil is a common French, located in the department of the Corrèze and the area the Limousin.
The inhabitants of Cornil are " Cornilois, Corniloises"

Geography

Commune located on the Corrèze.

History

The village, built on a Prehistoric site , is dominated by its beautiful Romance church and the vestiges of one of its castles. Center active with the Moyen-âge, one beat there currency under the Mérovingiens. Important family, the Cornil take part in the first Croisade S.
There were two castles with Cornil :
  • the low castle, located at the exit of the borough and which was destroyed at the time of the Wars of religion when the royal troops of Anne de Lévis seize the village
  • another castle located close to the church on a rock escarpment also called “sucquet” and of which there remains only one tower.
