Cornflakes
The cornflakes (in English corn flakes ) are a food product derived from the Maïs. They is mets containing Maïs cooks with Sucre and Vitamine S. the paste is flattened and roasted in the shape of the familiar flakes which are usually consumed with the breakfast, been useful with Lait. They were invented in 1897 in the Michigan (the United States) by John Kellogg to nourish his fourteen brothers.
History
The history of the cornflakes finds its origin at the end of the XIXe century, when a group of Adventistes of the seventh day sought to develop new mets which complies with the rules of their strict mode vegetarian. The members of this group tested many different cereals, among which the Blé, the Riz, the oats and, of course, the Maïs. In 1894, the doctor John Harvey Kellogg, director of a sanatorium with Battle Creek in the Michigan, and adventist, introduced this receipt into the mode vegetarian which it imposed on his patients, and who excluded also the alcohol, the Tabac and the Caféine. The mode which it imposed was made up only of insipid food: it was in fact in favor of the Sexual abstinence and followed the precepts of Sylvester Graham which affirmed that the soft mets or prickles could exacerbate passions, while the cereal flakes would have had an effect anti Aphrodisiaque.
This idea of the cereal flakes started with an accident, when Dr. Kellogg and his brother, Will Keith Kellogg, left a little corn boiled to cool, while they dealt with problems of the sanatorium. On their return, they noted that the corn had become stale, but considering they had a limited budget, they decided to continue to work it by flattening it using rollers, hoping to obtain a large sheet of paste. With their surprise, which they obtained were rolled grains, which once roasted gave “flakes” light and crunching, which they were used for their patients. That was held roughly the April 14th 1894 and the May 31st according to the product was patented under the name of Granose .
The corn flakes, been useful with Milk, quickly became mets very popular among patients, so that the Kellogg brothers started to try out the receipt with other cereals. In 1906, Will Keith Kellogg, which worked as administrative director of the sanatorium, decided to launch the product on the market, creating its own company, the company Kellogg's. For that, it had to quarrel with his brother about the sugar addition in the flakes to give them a savor more agéable and adapted better to a vaster public. The cornflakes were the first product which it marketed. To stimulate the sales, he added, in 1909, an special offer, a book of image on the animals of the jungle, the Funny Jungleland Moving Pictures Booklet , given to whoever would buy two packages of cereals. This same price was offered during 23 years. In the interval, Kellogg began the experimentation of new cereals to supplement its product range. The “ rice krispies ” (crusty rice), its great success, were put on sale for the first time in 1929.
An ex-employee of the company Kellogg's, C.W. Post, founded a rival company which became the second mark of corn flakes in the United States, the Post Toasties .
