Cornelis Evertsen the Young person
Cornelis Evertsen the Young person (Vlissingen April 16th, 1628 - Vlissingen September 20th, 1679) was a Dutch admiral of the XVIIe century.
Cornelis was the son of the Lieutenant-Admiral Johan Evertsen and the nephew of Cornelis Evertsen Old the. Cornelis became Master on the boat of his father, Hollandia, in 1648; in 1651 it was for a time Lieutenant while occupying the functions of Captain on the same boat. It was promoted Capitaine of Vlissingen in 1652, during the First war Anglo-Dutch. In 1653 it was wounded while he was the officer of edge of his father at the time of the Bataille of Scheveningen. In 1661 it moored on board Delft as Capitaine.
In July 1665, after the Battle of Lowestoft during the Second war Anglo-Dutch, it was promoted Rear-admiral of the Admiralty of Zealand. It fought on board Zierikzee during the Bataille the 4 days. He became Vice-Amiral of Zealand on September 5th 1666 the year when his/her father and his uncle were killed. He did not take part in the Raid on Medway in 1667 because the fleet zélandaise was not ready in time and hour.
He served the United Provinces during all the battles of the Third war Anglo-Dutch on board his flagship Zierikzee.
During the War of Holland, it took part in the attack missed against the Martinique in 1674 under the orders by De Ruyter. In 1676 it fought on behalf of the Denmark with Admiral-General the Cornelis Tromp, then with the supreme commander of the Danish forces, against the Sweden. In 1678 it worked against the French fleet in the Mediterranean and in the the Bay of Biscay.
Cornelis was an educated man who Maria twice, with each time a woman coming from a rich family; he died of disease with Vlissingen.
