Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle a small village of the Dorset, England. The village is located in a breach of the Purbeck Hills and with 8 km at the south of Wareham (Dorset). It has a castle of the same name. The word " corfe" of Anglo-Saxon origin is. It means " gap" (breach) referring to the geographical position of the castle.

The castle

The oldest structures of the castle date from the 11th century. However, one finds traces of fortifications former to the Conquête Norman of England. Edouard the Martyr was assassinated on the site the March 18th 978.
