Cordón del Azufre
The volcanic solid mass of the Cordón del Azufre is a small inactive volcanic complex located in the central Andes cordillera at the border between the Argentine (provinces of Catamarca and Salta) and the Chile (IIe Région of Antofagasta).
Situation
It is an Andean volcanic solid mass located on the north-western edge of Puna of the Argentinian province of Catamarca, in the Département of Antofagasta of the Sierra, like in the extreme south-west of the Département of Los the Andes and in the east of IIe Région of Antofagasta of the Chile.It is located at a few 50 kilometers in the south of the volcano Llullaillaco, and at fifty kilometers also in the south-west of the end of the Salar d' Arizaro.
Description
It is about a large field of lava noirâtre, strewn with four or five craters, which give the impression of large bubbles burst to the surface of a pasty soup. The volcano is not currently active.
