Copperbelt
The province of the Copperbelt (literally the girdles of copper ) is a province of Zambia, particularly rich in mineral layers. The province was the backbone of the economy of the Rhodesia of North at the time of the British domination , but its economic importance was reduced considerably since the fall of the prices of copper in 1973.
The area close the province to the Katanga in Democratic republic of Congo, which divides the rich person mineral similarities of Copperbelt. More the big cities of Copperbelt are Kitwe, Ndola and Mufulira. A road and a railway towards Congo allow the connections with Lubumbashi, but the war in Congo considerably slowed down the commercial relations between the two countries.
Geology
The areas of Copperbelt in Zambia and a Democratic republic of Congo result from an old assembly line, the Arc lufilien, which was formed when two parts of the continental bark, the Craton of Kalahari and the Craton of Congo, met. This collision is only one of many which occurred between 700 and 500 million years to form the super continent of the Gondwana.
This collision probably generated important masses of fluid, which reconditonnèrent the metal bases, largely present in the sediments accumulated in the basin located between these two cratons. These Saumure S concentrated the base metals along the limits Stratigraphique S, or along the Faille S, Défaut S or others traps . The collision produced also a contracting of the Earth's crust at this place, during which the stratigraphic Séquence was tectoniquement pushed towards north on the Craton of Congo.
The Arc lufilien contains two diamictites, of the méga conglomerates of glacial origin . One of enters is related to the glaciation Sturtienne, whereas another is related to the Marinoan glaciation, both having had a deep influence on the history of planet.
The Arc lufilien is prolonged towards the west with Damara Orogen in Namibia, which also shelters important lead-zinc and copper-cobalt layers.
