Copper country

The Pays of Copper ( Copper Country in English) is an area of the North-West of the higher peninsula of the State of the Michigan which includes the Péninsule of Keweenaw and the close counties. It provided the first layers of Cuivre to the the United States. During the last decades of the 19th century, it attracted a great number of immigrants of the Finland, the Sweden, the Germany and the Cornouailles. Its mine S continued to produce great quantities of copper until the years 1920, when the production started to decrease. Nevertheless, some of the mines remained open for the major part of the century. The last mine was closed in 1995. In spite of the end of this industry, the name Pays of Copper still remains to indicate the area.
