Copernic foundation

Founded in 1998 with Paris the Fondation Copernic is a Think tank (“box with ideas”) which falls under the movement altermondialist. It analyzes with its work groups the effects of the Mondialisation and produced publications, notes being used as sales leaflets to the other actors of the Altermondialisation. It is especially known for its implication in the countryside against the Traité establishing a Constitution for Europe at the time of the referendum of May 29th, 2005.

Presentation

The Copernic Foundation is defined itself as “addressing itself to all the political organizations, trade-union and associative like with all those and all those which are not resigned to the order néo-liberal” and want to work “to give to the place all that the Libéralisme makes function with back” It is allied with various political movements of the Gauche antilibérale like LCR or the Communist party within the National collective of initiative for a gathering antilibéral of left and common candidatures for the French presidential election of 2007.

Its work groups gather academics and actors of the social movement, trade unionists (of various federations: CGT, European Public Service Union Interdependent, CFDT, etc) and social organizers associative. They publish the conclusions of their analyzes in the form of sales booklets. In this way, the foundation takes share with the public debate and tries to bring another lighting to the social questions and economic. These last months were thus published, at Syllepse: Europe: an alternative ; EDF-GDF : privatization-spoliation ; Control on the Health insurance , etc

The work groups relate as well to professional training, the single college, European defense, the urban policies, the Homoparentalité, etc

Actor of the Social movement, Copernic supports, as far as his possibilities, of the specific collective initiatives.

The Copernic foundation was determining in the installation of a unit flexible structure for “not of left” to the European constitutional treaty while launching the Appel of the 200 (personalities recovering most of the extreme left).

It Co-is currently chaired by Evelyne Lord-Sailor (magistrate, trade unionist) and Yves Salesse (High-civil servant).
