I become acquainted with the young still unknown musician but with the promising talent which will write the music of our film. It is called Antônio Carlos Jobim and must have twenty-nine years. It is, says me one, the creator of a movement which was baptized Bossa nova. He does not know French a word, just a little bit of English. As of the evening even, we will not be left practically more. It introduces to me his large friend and accomplice, the poet Vinícius de Moraes. On its piano or guitar, he plays me all the topics of film and writing for me Samba C avio … My ears is enchanted, I never heard that, this way of balancing, three out of four… Tom is sometimes with the piano, sometimes in the guitar, Vinicius takes over… I remain seized, fascinated, filled with enthusiasm. It is a music which fills me. Very quickly joint with us Baden Powell, guitarist, follow-up of João Gilberto, singer for whom I have a true artistic love at first sight. It is a being, at this moment, very closed, wedged, still little known of the general public. As soon as me for a TV is asked, I impose it, and I take it along with me. He sings like anybody, with this balance, this shift… I find it completely extraordinary. A large musician. My life becomes a daydream. As soon as I do not turn, I slip by to find my new friends and we live, bathed incredible rates/rhythms… I assisted one evening with a contest of rates/rhythms between them all, with that which would bring one from there that the others would not know… Indian rates/rhythms, African rates/rhythms and all that they could know and invent. When one of them found a rate/rhythm new, surprising, all applauded, filled of true artistic joy and without a bit of jealousy or desire. I still wonder if I slept only one night in Brazil! When the film is finished, I do not return immediately. I remain. How long? I do not know any more… I lost any notion of time.
