Cooktown

Cooktown (: 1573 inhabitants) is the city more in north of the east coast of the peninsula of the Cape York in the North-East of the Queensland, in Australia. To 350 km in the north of Cairns, it is divided between the communities indigenous S of " Hopevale" (47 km in north, with 1.500 inhabitants) and of " Wujal Wujal" (72 km in the south, with 450 inhabitants). Tourist city, Cooktown has many assets:

  • the Large coral barrier, at one hour with boat.

  • Of many islands (like Lizard island) and reefs.
  • Historic sites of James Cook which passed there with its ship l'" Endeavor" , seven weeks in 1778 and of the gold rush of the Years 1870.
  • Of very beautiful beaches and walks with foot.

Climate

Cooktown has a hot tropical climate (31.5°C) in summer (between November and March) and wet (Mousson) and soft (24,3°C) in winter (between May and September). Cooktown is sometimes subjected in the passing of Cyclone S during the rain season (1800mm of rain per annum).

Airport

Cooktown has an airport (code AITA: CTN).
Il has two flights there (40 minutes) each day between Cooktown and Cairns. The international airport of Cairns is directly connected to the China, with HongKong, the Japan, the New Guinea New Guinea, the New Zealand, Singapore and the the United States.
