Convulsion

The convulsion is the violent and involuntary contraction of one or more Muscle S, of one or more members, even of all the body. According to the duration of the contractions one distinguishes:

  • the tonic convulsions , in which the muscular contraction is prolonged;
  • the clonic convulsions , in which they are muscular jolts of short duration (Myoclonie S).

The convulsions are the translation of a suffering of the nerve centres of the Encéphale or Spinal-cord. They are observed in particular in the epilepsy, and the Encéphalopathie S poisons or metabolic (example: the Syncope convulsivante, at the time of a cerebral Anoxia transient).

The hyperthermic Convulsion of the infant and the child is generally very frequent, impressive but benign.

Convulsives crises can also not have any organic cause and lie within the scope of demonstrations hysterical like in the case of the Convulsionnaires of Saint M3edard's Day.
