Convoy n° 6 of July 17th, 1942

The convoy n° 6 of July 17th, 1942 is the sixth of the 83 convoys left France towards Auschwitz.

The convoy n°6

The convoy n° 6 off-set 928 Jews, adults and children, interned in the camp of Pithiviers and Beaune-the-Rolande the 17 July 1942 towards the death camps of Auschwitz. Only 80 people will return from there. Party the 17 July 1942 with 6:15, is the second day of the great raid of the July 16th and 17th 1942, or Rafle of the Cycle-racing track of Winter, it has in particular the characteristic to be the first to as many transport women and children.

Works and work

Several works were written on the convoy n°6.

The Research center and of documentation on the camps of internment and the Jewish deportation in Loiret (CERCIL) published a work documented and teaching on the convoy n°6 (Monique Novodorsqui-Deniau, Pithiviers-Auschwitz, on July 17th, 1942, 6 hours 15 , ED. CERCIL, Orleans, 2006).

Monique Novodorsqui-Deniau, psychoanalyst, whose family of Polish origin resided at Montargis and whose history is deeply related to that of the camps, collected testimonys. She recalls in this work part of the history of 101 of these deportees through the testimony of close relations, the account of some survivors, children hidden or parts of files.

Simone Veil, president of the Foundation for the Memory of Shoah, carried out the foreword of this work. According to the latter, member of the Constitutional council, “such books are not only important because they outline the history of beings which failed to sink forever in the lapse of memory of the History, they are it also because all testimonys are accompanied by a work of files whose teaching utility is certain: what the high-school pupils, the students will be able to read here, it is not only the coldness and the sadness of death, it is also alive heat, the little stories destroyed by the History, the whole accompanied by an iconographic work of a remarkable richness and a quality”. The edition is presented and annotated by the historians Katy Hazan, Benoît Verny and Nadine Fresco.

Association “Memories of Convoy 6”, dedicated to the research of the children, families, friends of the deportees of the convoy n°6 and with the transmission of their memory, published a work entitled N°6 CONVOY, Destination Auschwitz July 17th, 1942 “In excess in the nation's economy”. Antoine Mercier, journalist with France Culture, coordinated the collection of testimonys present in this book.
