The convertible peso cuban (ISO 4217 code: CUC, sometimes CUC$), is one of the two officelles currencies of Cuba (the other being the cuban Peso CUP). Often known under the name of chavito , its use is limited since the years 1990, at which time he was regarded as equivalent with the US Dollar. The chavito is adopted like official currency of Cuba, on November 8th, 2004. Officially, it can be exchanged only on the cuban territory, 1 CUP being worth $1,08 roughly.
The currency is divided into coins of 1,5,10,20,50 centavos, 1 peso and 5 peso (the coin of 1 centavos was introduced in 2000, and that of 5 peso is very rare).
The tickets in circulation are of 1,3,5,10,20,50 and 100 convertible pesos.
