Convention of the republican institutions
The convention of the republican institutions (CIR) was a political party created by François Mitterrand in 1964, by the meeting of several political clubs resulting from the Republican left and Socialiste (Republican Atelier, Citoyens 60, European democratic Front…). This relatively flexible federation little by little will be structured in true political party, in particular at the time of the presidential election of 1965. It is then ankle gathering which under the name of Fédération of the democratic and socialist left will carry the candidature of François Mitterrand. In 1971, the CIR dissolves in the Socialist party at the time of the Congrès of Épinay. The clubs which constituted the CIR will exist for some of them beside the PS like associated structures. It is within the CIR that several men and political women close to François Mitterrand began their political career, like Pierre Joxe or Edith Cresson.
