Convention of Chicago

The Relative convention with Civil International Aviation , known also under the name of Convention of Chicago , founded the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an specialized agency of the the United Nations which is in charge of the coordination and the regularization of international air transport. Convention lays down the rules of the air, rules for the registration of the aircraft, safety, and specifies the rights and duties of the countries signatories as regards air law relating to international transport.

Convention was signed the December 7th 1944 with Chicago by 52 countries. It received its 26e Ratification the March 5th 1947 and is coming into effect the April 4th 1947. Since, the text was revised seven times, in 1959, 1963, 1969, 1975, 1980, 1997, and in 2000.

The signed original document is preserved in the Public records of the United States.
