Contus

Contus is a Latin term (of Greek origin) which indicates long a Lance of rider, handled with two hands. The contus was the weapon of Sarmates and Alains, riders of the steppes, including one certain number was engaged in the Roman army at the time of its apogee. Sarmates were almost the only riders of the Roman army to use blunt weapons, because the Romans preferred to use weapons of size, like the " spatha" , kinds of " hispano gladio" , Iberian sword (the sword short used of the left hand of the basic infantryman Roman), whose blade made the double of that of this last (Iberian sword: 30 to 45 cm/spatha: 60 to 100 cm)
