Control panel road of regulation in France

The object of the indication of regulation is to make available of the road users particular prohibitions and obligations resulting from lawful measurements supplementing the Highway code.

Indeed, under the terms of the article R 411.25 of this code, these provisions are opposable to the users only if they were the subject of lawful measurements of indication.

Characteristics

The panels of regulation are of form circular, with two following specificities:

For the regulation of the Parking applying to a zone, the circle is placed in a square.
For the zones at limited speed, the B14 panel is placed in a rectangle.

All the panels of the type B must be rétroréfléchissants.

There exist five ranges of size defined in the interdepartmental instruction on the road signs.

Color of the panels

Panels of prohibition

The panels of prohibition are at white zone, crown and bar reds prohibition, symbols, letters or figures black except:

of the B1 panel which is at red bottom and comprises a white horizontal bar;
of the panels B3, B3a, B15, B18b which comprise in the symbol a red part;
of the B18a panel whose symbol comprises an explosion of red and orange color;
of the B18c panel where the square is of orange color;
of the panels B6a and B6d which are at blue bottom. The inscriptions of the panels B6a2 and B6a3 are of white color;
of the B6b panels which are consisted the representation of a B6a panel, on a square at white zone bordered of a red listel. The other symbols or possible inscriptions are black.
of the B30 panels which are consisted the representation of a B14 panel in a rectangle at white zone bordered of a red listel. The other symbols and inscriptions are black.

The crowns of the panels of prohibition and the B1 panel should not carry any inscription.

Panels of obligation

The panels of obligation are at blue bottom, listel and symbol white.

Panels of end of regulation

The panels of end of prohibition are at white zone, symbol, inscription, listel and bars black. The panels of end of obligation are at blue bottom, barred white symbol of a red diagonal.

Panels of zonal regulation

The panels of end of zone are at white zone bordered of a black listel. The circular symbol that they carry is of the type B6a or B14 where the red is replaced by gray. The other symbols and the bar are black.

Establishment of the panels

The panels of regulation are placed at the immediate vicinity of the place where the regulation starts to be essential. They must be repeated after each intersection other than those with deprived ways nonopen to public circulation or dirt tracks.

However, the B2a panels, B2b, B2c, B4, B5a, B5b, B5c and the panels of obligation B21b, B21c1, B21c2, B21d1, B21d2, B21e, are placed before the place where the regulation applies which they indicate. With an adapted distance, taking into account the layout of the premises.

The panels of the B6 type are placed side where the parking or the stop is prohibited or regulated.

At the entry of a Agglomeration, the applicable regulations of circulation are made available of the users by panels established after the panel of entry of agglomeration.

These regulations are applicable only on the road on which the panel is established, except when the regulation is given by a panel of zonal regulation, and when the panel of regulation is supplemented by a M9z sign being marked “In all the agglomeration”.

If the regulations of police force are numerous, the led principle of legibility, with the entry of a cross-piece, to group the corresponding panels by two, or very exceptionally three, on spaced supports of a few tens of meters.

Exception is made for a panel of speed limit with less than 50 km/h which with panels AB6 and AB7 are only placed on the same support as the panel of entry of agglomeration and then prescribed a speed limit applicable to all the agglomeration.
