Contrevoz

Contrevoz is a common French, located in the Ain and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants is called the contrevolats.

Geography

The commune of Contrevoz is located at the south of the Virieu-the-Large canton of , in the Arrondissement of Belley (01) Its culminating point is Mollard de Don.

Contrevoz is composed of three other hamlets: Préveyzieu, Boissieu and Montbreyzieu.

One finds traces of Contrevoz under several orthographies with the wire of the century: - De Contreivo , 1141 (arch. of Ain, H 242). - Contrevos , 1354 (arch. of Dimension-of Or, B863, f° 25 r °). - Apud Contrevo , 1354 (ibid, f° 41 r °). - Contrevoz , 1580 (Guichenon, Bresse and Bugey, pr., p. 196).

In the feudal order, Contrevoz concerned the county of Rossillon.

Before 1790, Contrevoz was a community of the bailliage, election and subdelegation of Belley, mandement of Rossillon.

Its parish church, diocese of Geneva, archiprétré of Virieu, was placed under the term of Romain saint; the bishop of Belley named with the cure. Ecclesia de Contrevoz, sub vocabulo Sancti Romani 1400 approx. (pouillé of the dioc. of Belley).

The parish church

It is placed under the term of Saint-Romain. The oldest mention which is ridge goes up in the middle of XIIéme century. It is of neo-gothic style with three spans.

Vault Saint-Sebastien

Today disappeared its site remains unknown. It is however made by it mention in the declaration of the goods of the communities of the intendant of Burgundy Claude Bouchu (1665-70).

Vault Holy-Anne

Small arched Vault of 10 X 5,5 meters, it is located at the foot of the Mollard de Don. With the top of the entry one can read: This vault was built and founded by Me Jean Millieret, judge of Belley, pursuant to a wish made with holy Anne of its assent by young lady Marie Picot her espouse in a disease of which she died in Contrevoz on June 3rd, 1684 .

Vault of Boissieu

Placed under the term of saint Etienne, one could read on the pediment today disappeared the date from 1644. There remain nothing any more but two about it window trefoil in a building of the hamlet of Boissieu.
