Contrebassine
The contrebassine is a instrument artisanal generally manufactured starting from a plastic Bassine in or Métal (holding place of Caisse of resonance), of a stick (of the size of a handle with Balai - ustensil generally used - holding place of handle) and of only one and single cord (often of the type clothes line ). In instrumentarium it holds place of Contrebasse, relatively primitive, as its name can indicate it. Other more advanced models are based on a case of resonance made up of a barrel of battery ( Marvellous Pig Noise ) and developed in order to have a possible register largest and precise.
It would have been created initially by the first musicians of Jazz, using a Lessiveuse in case of resonance. Among the groups having used this instrument, one finds in particular the VRP, the Tontons Zinc workers, the Friends of your wife, David Vincent and his mutants, the MJC Clandestine, the Fighters and the Wire of Teuhpu (These two last use from now on also an electric shovel, invented by a Luthier, to replace the brush.). It is also often used in certain groups occurring in the street and some groups of Rock' N roll.
One can also call this instrument a dustbin-low , when it is a Poubelle which is used as case of resonance. The groups which use it thus are: the Small Flosses, Oldelaf and Mr D, the Boys Pavements.
To also note harpobasse it of Philippe Bern whose oscillatory mode is similar. in English the contrebassine is called Washtub low of which there exist versions has 4 cords or manufactured from metal barrels.
Manufacture
The contrebassine belongs to the instruments resulting from the wild Lutherie which names the instruments made starting from manufactured objects intended for another use. There thus does not exist standard for the manufacture of contrebassine, but the basic principle is almost always the same one. One poses the basin with back, edge against ground, one bores there a hole in which one passes the wire to which one made a node so that holds, one attaches the other end of the wire at the end of the handle which one poses the other end on the basin so as to tighten the wire more or less. These are the variations in the tension of the cord as some rare Doigté S which produce the notes, very often very approximate accuracy, of this instrument which is played only Pizzicato.
