Contrario
Contrario is a Board game created by Odet Homer, Roberto Fraga, and Matthieu d' Epenoux, published by Cocktailgames since 2001. It was distributed in France by Jeux Descartes then by Asmodée.
For 2 players or (much) more, as from 10 years, 30 minutes.
Rules of the game
The principles are learned in less than one minute. The play is pressed on charts, presenting several expressions. Starting from each expression, the players must find an expression known or traditional, by replacing each word by is:- an opposite: small for large , without for with
- a synonym: similar for similar , scarlet for red
- a word of the same family: coniferous for fir tree , elephant for tiger
With you maintaining! If I say " Soup of ignorance" , you think of…
When the players do not find, from the indices come to help. For example, if the expression is " 69 lévriers" , the first index is Cinéma then second is Walt Disney , and the answer to be found is thus: " 101 dalmatiens"! To find without index brings back 3 points, to find with an index 2 points, and two indices: 1 point.
The players agree on the goal of the play at the beginning of part. This perhaps for example to arrive in first at 100 points, to be first at the end of 30 minutes, or of 30 charts. One can imagine all kinds of alternatives according to the level of the players and their desires.
Around the play
The play gained the Grand Prix of the Toy - New talents in 2002. It is about the first play of the editor. Its rules are very simple, it has much success however.
Contrario 2
In 2006, Contrario 2 takes again the same principle and proposes 1600 new diverted expressions. Certain diversions use associations of idea. The words to be found are not thus inevitably any more of the synonyms of the antonyms or the of the same words kind.An example: Panpan the nougat . An index: the answer is in the list of the French expressions to the letter C.
