Conto of réis
The conto of réis is an expression, adopted with the Brésil and the Portugal, to indicate a million unit of the currency, the real , which preceded the cruzeiro in Brazil and the escudo in Portugal.
A conto of réis thus corresponded to a million reais (or réis ).
In Portugal, even after the replacement of real by the escudo, the expression conto of réis was still used to indicate thousand escudos .
