Continental Airlines
Continental Airlines (Code AITA: CO ; Code ICAO: COA ) is the larger sixth world Airline company, with more than 2.900 daily departures towards the America S, the Europe, the Asia and even the Oceania, with its subsidiary company Continental Micronesia (Code AITA CS ). Continental dessert 149 domestic destinations and 119 international destinations. It is based with Houston with the Texas. It belongs to SkyTeam, since September 2004.
Its three platforms of correspondence ( hubs ) are the intercontinental Aéroport George-Bush of Houston, that of Newark and that of Cleveland.
Continental Micronesia enables him to serve the Hawaii, the Polynésie, the Micronesia (area), the Australia, the East Asia starting from its hub of Guam (International airport Antonio-B. - Won-Stalemate of Guam).
It has as a Expressjet subsidiary company which has as a trade name Continental Express train. SkyWest, Cape Air, Commutair and Gulfstream International Airlines contribute to the Continental flights under Continental name the “Connection”.
Continental belonged to the Alliance of airline companies Wings Alliance and was partner of Northwest Airlines, KLM and Delta Airlines. She also organizes divisions of code with Amtrak and the SNCF.
History
Continental Airlines began in 1934 like Varney Speed Lines , according to the name of its owner, Walter T. Varney, starting from the airport of El Paso. Its current name was adopted in 1937 with the new owner Robert Six who chaired the company during 40 years and moved his base with Denver (from where the name). Limited for a long time to the south-west of the United States, in 1953 it amalgamated with Pioneer Airlines while developing on the Texas and the New Mexico. In 1957, the first flight between Chicago and Los Angeles was programmed, but its Boeing 707 did not fly on the East coast.
In 1963, the seat of the company settled with Los Angeles and in 1968, a new image was inaugurated (orange, but with a black circle on the tail). It is the war of the Vietnam which caused the birth of Continental Micronesia (initially Air Micronesia ). In 1970, the first Boeing 747 is brought into service. Auckland and Sydney was reached in 1977.
It is member of SkyTeam, since September 2004.
