Continental AG
The company Continental AG , founded on October 8th, 1871, whose head office is with Hanover, is a German company of pneumatic. It is the first manufacturer of tires in Germany and the 4th global manufacturer, behind Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear.
Continental has like marks of vehicle tyre: Continental, Semperit, Barum, General Draw, Euzkadi, Viking, Gislaved and Mabor. It delivers the tires for the manufacturers: BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Renault, Peugeot, Saab, Toyota, Nissan, Smart, Opel, Porsche…

History
- October 8th, 1871: company continental S.A. was founded
- 1882: the " horse sautant" is deposited like trademark.
- 1892 : Continental to manufacture tires for bicycle called " is the first German company; pneumatics"
- 1898 : starting of the automobile production of tire without sculptures with the factory of Hanover-Vahrenwald.
- 1900 : use of continental fabric to ensure the sealing of the compartments gas of first German airship LZ 1.
- 1901: feeling: a Daimler vehicle named for the first Mercedes time gains the automobile race Nice - Living room-Nice on Continental tires.
- 1904 : first world: Continental presents an automobile tire to shaped treads.
- 1905 : Continental tire non-skid with rivets manufactures, precursor of the future studded tyres.
- 1907 : first edition of " the continental Road atlas for cars and motocyclistes" .
- 1908 : Continental invents the dismountable rim for private car, an important innovation allowing to save time and effort during a change of tire.
- 1909 : clothes industry, for the first time, of tires of tests starting from rubber samples of synthesis developped at the point by Bayer and vulcanized successfully by Continental. Louis blériot is the first to make a success of the overflight of the sleeve on an aircraft built with Continental fabric for plane.
- 1912 : beginning of the building work of an administrative building with Vahrenwald according to plans of the architect Peter Behren. The town of Hanover repurchased this building in 1986 to install a center of technology there.
- 1914 : triple victory of Daimler to the Grand Prix of France over the tires Continental.
- 1921 : for the fiftieth anniversary of the company Continental is the first in Germany with launching on the market the textile tire with cables in which a fine fabric replaces the less flexible woven fabric used hitherto.
- 1926 : the addition of carbon black gets for the tire a resistance higher than the wear, best held with ageing like its characteristic black color.
- 1928/1929: fusion with large companies of the industry of Continental rubber and creation of the public limit company Gummi-Werke AG. Acquisition of the factories Hanover-To file and Krobach in hess.
- 1932 : launching on the market under the elastic name SCHWING-METALL of rubber cables adherized on metal for the damping of the shocks and the noises structure-borne in the suspension of engines.
- 1935/1940: sensational victory of racing car Mercedes racing and Car-Union equipped with tires Continental. 4 consecutive victories with the Grand Prix of Germany, 4 victories in Tripoli (North Africa), 3 in Italy and of many speed records contribute to the international repute of runners such as Carraciola, Rosemeyer and Stuck.
- 1936 : starting of the production of tires at the rubber base of synthesis.
- 1938 : pose first stone of the factory of tires of Hamovre-Stocken.
- 1943 : patent application for tubeless tyres.
- 1945 : considerable damage in the factories of Hanover-Vahrenwald and Korbach following the bombardments. As of the June 14th, the English military government gives the authorization to take again the production in the factories of Hanover.
- 1951 : starting of the production of the conveying belts with metal carcass Stahlcord.
- 1952 : in addition to the traditional tires, Continental proposes for the first time of tires M+S especially designed for circulation in winter.
- 1955 : with the beginning of the year Continental is the first German company to start the production of tires without rooms. It is also the first to develop membranes of pneumatic suspension for coaches/bus and heavy trucks.
- 1960 : starting of the series production of radial-ply tyres.
- 1961 : routing of the factory of Dannenberg (Elba) for initially, to work out plastic products for auto industry.
- 1964 : establishment of a factory of tires with Sarreguemine with the installation of a factory of rubber industrial products with Northeim.
- 1967 : inauguration of the Condidrom center, center of tests of tires. In 1994/1995 the length of this ground of tests makes more than 3,8 km length. In 2001 a course of appreciation of the 3,7 km length noise level is brought into service.
- July 25th, 2007: purchase of Siemens VDO by Continental AG for 11,4 Billion euros, propelling Continental AG with the 5th rank of automobile equipment on the level of the volume of the sales.
