The context of a event includes the circumstances and conditions which surround it; the context of a word, a sentence, a length stated or a text includes the words which surround it.
Inside the scientific disciplines specific, it has the following directions:
In Archeology, the context (physical localization) of a discovery can be of a major significance. See stratification. More precisely, an archaeological context is a event in the Temps which was preserved in the archaeological recordings. The digging of a well or a pit in the past is a context, while the Matériau filling it will be another. The multiple fillings, seen as of the layers in archaeological section would mean multiple contexts. Structural characteristics, deposits Natural S and Inhumation S are also contexts. By separating a site in these basic units, discrete, the archeologists are able to create a Chronologie activity on a site, it to describe and Interpréter.
In Communication, Sociology, and Linguistic, the context is one of the factors of the communication, which influences the direction of a Message (like a Phrase) and its Relation with the other parts of the Message (a such delivers). It corresponds to the environment in which the communication takes place, and with any perceptions of the general environment which can be associated with the communication. Thus, the context is the " cadre" from Perception through which one emits or one receives a message (it is to be differentiated from the Cotexte).
In Data-processing, the context is the whole of the conditions under which a device is being used, for example current occupation of the user. See also, Commutation of context.
In Artificial intelligence, the context is very strongly connected to its properties in Communication, Linguistique and Philosophie. The scientific research is carried out on the way in which these aspects can be modelled in computing systems (for example based on logic) for the use in the automatic Raisonnement.
In the biblical studies, the context indicates the harmonious relation of the verses of the writings or the portion of text studied according to the rule of the “text in the context”. One should conform to a Sens scripturaire a close relationship with the immediate passage when one tries to determine the direction of the writings. The context of the writings should also follow the goal and the objective observed by the original writer with a glance towards the transmission of the truth scripturaire to the effective audience. See the historico-grammatical hermeneutics .
In Contemporary art, the context is often used to describe all that surrounds the objet d'art or the artistic gesture. For example, the manner according to which a painting is hung in a gallery, the political situation and social of an artistic act, the function of the place of actualization, etc the references on the matter are the proclamation of Jan Swidzinski, critical work of Paul Ardenne and the searchs for John Cornu.
In Psychology, the context refers to the stimuli of background which accompany certain types of events of foreground. For example, if a rat are ferreting and are frightened by a cat, the place (and probably moment) of exploration is the context and the cat is the event of foreground. There seems to be a specialized structure neurale, the hippocampus, for the treatment of certain types of contexts.
Note: The context can be general or particular according to various documents. Attention a text can be written a long time after the events that he tells, there is then a chronological shift. There are then the context of the told facts and that of the enociation (moment of the drafting of the document).
