Contest of hacking

A contest of hacking is a series of tests where it is proposed to the participants to test their knowledge and competences in computer security, with a ludic and/or didactic aim. They are generally computing systems accessible by a network which voluntarily contain faults that the participants must exploit to gain of the points.

The goal is to put into practice on cases which approach the reality of acquired knowledge as much as possible in a theoretical way.

The majority of these contests are launched by impassioned, on a Web site or at the time of demonstrations having a relationship with the world of the computer security. Some are initiated by software editors who want to test the safety of their product, or who make an action of communication of it by putting at the challenge the community " casser" their system in exchange of an important amount of money.
