Content Scrambling System ( CS ), or system of jamming of the contents , is a technology installation during the creation of DVD to protect the video contents from it.

History

This system was developed in 1996 like means of protecting the contents from the video DVD. However, as of October 1999, the Norwegian Jon Lech Johansen helped of two anonymities managed to reverse the algorithm and wrote the program DeCSS. Currently the CS successor would be AACS.

Definitions

the authentification is a means for the DVD and reader DVD to recognize itself. This stage is necessary before beginning the reading of the data. In fact the keys of identification are used at the time of this stage.

Clé CS is a gathering word: key of authentification, key disc, key of the reader, key titrates, second key disc and/or encrypted key.

the key of authentification is used during the process of authentification.

the key titrates is used for crypter/to decipher the data called title . A title can be a complete film, a bottom of page or any other unit storing itself it even.

the key disc is used to decipher the key titrates of a DVD.

the key reader is used to decipher the key disc . One of these keys among approximately 400 is allotted to each manufacturing of reader DVD so that it can incorporate it in his readers.

Programme of decoding CS (for example DVD To decipher, AnyDVD or DVD Shrink) makes it possible to copy a DVD specific to a zone in a DVD which can be read everywhere. It withdraws also Macrovision, a protection anti-copy towards a video tape recorder, CS, regional codes (zone) and decontaminates the operations users (UOPs).
