Constitutional Democratic Assembly

The Constitutional Democratic Assembly (RCD) (rear RTL التجمعالدستوريالديمقراطي) Political party Tunisia founded N the February 27th 1988 is a by Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali. He is member of the Internationale Socialist.

He is the successor of two older parties: the Néo-Destour which are founded the March 2nd 1934 by Habib Bourguiba and the Socialist party destourien which replaces Néo-Destour the October 19th 1964 (always under the direction of Bourguiba). This party, under its various names, is with the capacity since the independence obtained in 1956 and current president Ben Ali in is resulting. He currently controls 152 of the 189 seats of the House of Commons (87,7% of the voices to the elections of the October 24th 2004).

Central committee

It is composed of 200 elected members and meets once per six-month period.

Advisory counsel of the combatants

He is composed combatants and militants designated by the president of the party in “homage to their fidelity with the party and the services rendered to the fatherland”.

National council

It is a consultative body which meets on convocation of the political office to examine the political situation, economic and social country “within the framework of the consolidation of the national unit and the safeguard of the national accord”. It is composed of the members of the central committee, the representatives of the national organizations and “popular organizations” which cooperate with the RCD as well as three representatives of each coordination committee.

Coordination committees

The RCD counts 28 coordination committees, for each Gouvernorat, except the Gouvernorat of Tunis which counts five of them (Tunis-City, El Ouardia, Bardo, El Menzah and Marsa). The persons in charge of the coordination committees are named and not elected.

Federations

The RCD counts 358 federations, 326 covering all the delegations of the country - distributed among the 28 coordination committees -, and 32 federations distributed on certain foreign countries where live a big number of Tunisians. The federation is chapotée by elected general secretary.

Cells

These basic structures of the RCD are 8649 including 8100 covering the whole of the national territory, 40 cells gathering of the teachers of the higher education and 509 gathering the Tunisian abroad alive in the following countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Mauritania, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Swiss and Ukraine.

Each cell is chapotée as for it by an elected president. They are the members of the cells of the RCD which elects the general secretary of the federation in addition.
