Constitution of Illinois

The constitution of Illinois is the legislative text which fixes the organization of the institutions of the state of Illinois, with the the United States of America. The current version is in force since 1970.

Illinois had four Constitution S, the first being adopted in 1818 during the admission of the state in the Union. The following versions go back to 1848 and 1870. One of the principal characteristics of the current version is to have introduced a share of autonomy for the great municipalities or other governmental entities local. This autonomy allows a big city as Chicago to manage these proper businesses without the government of the state of Illinois being able to intervene.
