Constantine John Phipps
Constantine John Phipps , second baron Mulgrave, is a Explorateur and a British Naturaliste , born the May 19th 1744 and dead the October 10th 1792.
Phipps begins its studies with the Eton College, at the sides of Joseph Banks, but stops them quickly to take the sea under the command of his/her uncle, A.J. Hervey. In 1766, it leaves Newfoundland as lieutenant on board the HMS Niger . Banks accompanies it like Naturaliste.
The June 4th 1773 Phipps leaves Deptford to gain the North pole. Forwarding comprises two ships, the Racehorse and the Carcass . Phipps is accompanied by Dr. Irving, as naturalist and Médecin of edge, and Israel Lyons (1739-1775) like astronomer. One of the youngest members of the crew is not other than Horatio Nelson. They sail until Svalbard and in the Seven Islands, but the ices oblige them to return in Orfordness on September 17th. It is during this voyage that Phipps observes the Polar bear and the Morse which it will describe in 1774 in its account of voyage, has Voyage towards the North Pole undertaken… 1773 .
To its death, the title of baron de Mulgrave is transmitted to his/her brother Henry Phipps.
