Constantin IV
Constantin IV Pogonat (652 - 685), Constant oldest son of II, Byzantine emperor of 668 to its death. Of his wife, Anastasia, it had a son who becomes the Emperor Justinien II.
Regarded as an advised statesman and a born leader, Constantin IV fought with firmness against the Arabs (first seat of Constantinople by the Arab (674 - 678) and overcame them into 678 thanks to the use of the Greek fire which set fire to the Arab fleet. A peace treaty thirty years was concluded with the caliph, who committed himself paying an annual tribute.
Constantin IV failed however vis-a-vis an attack of the Bulgarian ones, which settled with Pliska and due to pay them tribute.
Under its reign took place the third Concile of Constantinople (680 - 681): accepted by the pope, this council condemned the Monothélisme and reunified Christendom.
He died of dysentery into 685.
