Constantin (pope)

Constantin (sometimes called Constantin Ier to distinguish it from the Antipape Constantin II), Pope born with Tyr elected the March 25th 708, it continues the work of its predecessor. He deals in particular with theological religious questions. He condemns the doctrines monophysist which recognize only one nature with Christ. Historians report that the emperor Justinien II, enemy of the Maronites, returns to Constantinople ten years later, and controls more tyrannically still. He insists that the Constantin pope goes to Constantinople for dialogs about the decisions taken to the last Concile of Constantinople that the pope Serge I {{er}} had refused.
After one period of hesitation, the pope leaves Rome for Constantinople, the October 5th 710. He is well accommodated in all the cities, in particular in the capital where its entry is triumphal. He succeeds in convincing Justinien II to modify certain resolutions of the above mentioned council.
After one year of absence, the pope, victorious, regains his residence in the Holy See. But after the return of the Saint Father to Rome, the emperor Justinien II tries to retract. The clergy and the people oppose him. In the same way, the army is raised and assassinates it the year 771.
As for the pope Constantin, he dies the April 9th 715. He is buried with the Saint-Pierre Cathedral with the the Vatican.
