Constant Breton the (1895-1985) is a painter French.

He was born the March 11th 1895 with Saint Germain from Près in Anjou from a family from marines from the the Loire. Admitted in training with Nantes, then with the Mans, it is received with the school of decorative Arts but cannot follow the courses of them.

Mobilized in 1915, it makes the war with the Dardanelles and in the East. After the armistice, it settles with Paris, is devoted to engraving on wood and acquires a good reputation as illustrator of books.

It obtains a purse of the Fondation Blumenthal and is essential quickly in painting. It binds friendship with its elder Luce, Derain, Segonzac, or its contemporaries Antral, Belmondo, Brayer.

It is essential as portraitist. One owes him of the portraits of Charles Dullin, Ingrid Bergman, Béatrice Bretty and of very many others. He does not neglect of it, for all that, the landscape, the still life and of the indoor scenes.

He releases himself from this important work, firmly built, painted with sensitivity and nuances, a beautiful serenity and the expression of a great love of life.

The Parisian museums have a big number of its works. Several of its tables, in particular the portraits which were ordered to him, are in private collections, in France, in the United States, in Canada, in Great Britain, in Switzerland, in Germany, in Greece.

Constant the Breton one is deceased with Paris in February 1985.
