Constant Dutilleux

Constant Dutilleux (Douai October 5th, 1807 - Paris October 21st, 1865) is a painter, draftsman and French engraver of the 19th century.

Attracted by the drawing, it enters the workshop of Louis Hersent, professor at the School of the Art schools of Paris. Dutilleux admires much Eugene Delacroix as from 1827 after having seen table the Death of Sardanapale, it follows its career of close and it meets it in 1847. It collects its works and those of Corot. It binds friendship with him, and starting from 1851 Corot came regularly to Arras, while Dutilleux accompanied it in Holland then with Fontainebleau.

It made share admiration that it had these two painters with his entourage, in particular with its beautiful sons Charles Desavary and Alfred Robaut. Camille Corot continued to come to Arras ten years after death from Dutilleux in 1865.

It took part with its beautiful sons in the settling of the process of stereotype glass that Corot used much.

Constant Dutilleux is the great-grandfather of the type-setter Henri Dutilleux.

Works

In the first part it was marked by Scandinavian painting, but it was attracted by the landscapes.

There is then influenced by Corot but remains more realistic.

The School of Arras

Young painters were trained by Telling Dutilleux and were subject to the influence of Corot:
  • Desired Dubois (1817-1889) which settled with Arras in 1845.

  • Xavier Dourlens (1826-1888) which devoted all its work to the area of Arras.
  • Jules ThĂ©paut (1818-1885)
  • Charles Desavary (1837-1885) beautiful-made of Dutilleux which continued after the death of this one.
  • Jules Deneux (1868-1895) raises of Xavier Dourlens
  • Gustave Colin (1828-1910) who fixed himself in the Basque Country.

The stereotype glass

The stereotype glass uses the technique of engraving for the creation of work and the photographic technique for the reproduction. A glass plate covered with a layer partly made up of Collodion is engraved then serves as negative to carry out pullings on photographic paper.
