Constancy of Provence
Constancy , born with the neighborhoods of the year 920, died between 963 and 966 was countess of Provence by marriage.
A badly known filation
Its filiation is not known and the abbot Maurice Chaume has the first highlighted that the first name of the latter returned to the count de Vienne Charles-Constantin. He quotes other indices which did not appear convincing thereafter, but to consider Charles Constantin, count de Vienne as the father of Constancy of Provence remains the best assumption of the filiation of Constancy.
Certain researchers thought that it was sister of Charles Constantin, but Guillaume the Liberator, his son, having been born towards 950-955, it even could not be born before 910-915. However the mother of Charles Constantin, who transmitted the first names of Constancy and Constantin, died into 903. It is true that Constance could be a niece of Charles Constantin, but it is very improbable that this last had a sister or a German brother (brevity of the marriage of the parents and absence in the sources).
Marriage and children
She married before 942 Boson II (928 † 968), count d' Arles and had two wire:
- Rotbald (Roubaud) († 1008) and
- Guillaume known as '' the Liberator '' († 993), born towards 950 and dead after August 29th, 993, count d' Arles and of Provence then marquis de Provence in 975. He is the father of Constance of Arles wife of the king of Robert II of France.
