Conspiracy of darkness

the conspiracy of darkness is a Romance written in 1991, by Theodore Roszak, professor of history to the the University of California. The main character, Jonathan Spoil, is student in cinematography which finds the trace of a German realizer emigrated in the United States in the Twenties, max Castle, missing at sea during the Second world war, and forgotten of the public. The novel is organized in 32 chapters:

Jonathan Gates studies the cinema at the University of California; he attends regularly a small room of cinema Underground, Classic, managed jointly by Clarissa Swan and Don Sharkey, the projectionist. He sympathizes quickly with the two people, and becomes soon the lover of Clarissa, or Clare. He discovers, thanks to Classic, a prewar silent film realizer, max Castle. This one initially began its career in Germany, between the two world wars, before migrating to the United States, the accession with the capacity of the Nazis. The films of max Castle put badly at ease, without for all this one always knows why. That is in fact due to particular techniques making it possible to hide images in film… Thus, the films of max Castle prove to be truffles of subliminal messages, which makes it possible to discover a special apparatus that Zip Lipsky, the cameraman of Castle, calls Sallyrand . The realizer received these techniques of the Church of the Orphans of the Storm, where it was high. This Church is downward movement Cathare, whose faithful ones were exterminated to the Middle Ages by the Church Catholique. With the very invaluable assistance of Clare, the protagonist passes a thesis on max Castle. Thus, it makes redécouvrir in the world this mysterious realizer. The subliminal messages of its films are strongly impregnated dogmas of its religion. Whereas John Gates became researcher, the Church of the Orphans is finally a new realizer, Simon Dunkle, who seems to be also gifted, if not more, that its predecessor. John Gates hardly meets it and begins an article on this 18 year old wonder, always control by his Church. During sumptuous research, Gates discovers that this one seems to have destroying projects for humanity, precisely for the year 2014. The Orphans of the Storm buy orphans who they form with various trades (biology, nuclear physics, and of course trades of the cinema…) and are then semi-officially missioné to advance the most destroying techniques of armament, and thus serve the cause of their Church. This last information is provided by Angelotti, a priest of Oculus Dei, charged with supervising the activities of the Orphans. Jonathan Gates which knows some now much about the sect, is seen proposed to meet one of the more former members of the Cathare Church, in France. But it is only one trap intended to facilitate its elimination. It is found one beautiful day on an island lost in the middle of the Indian Ocean, with as geôliers a new couple of natives which is renewed every month. The island shelters another prisoner, who is not other than max Castle itself, isolated because it knew of it too much about the orphans and that it threatened as Gates to make known in the world their projects. It is learned that Clarissa Swan, it also disappears mysteriously. After months of insulation, Jonathan Gates decides to write its memories; it is the beginning of the novel…
