Conrad Dasypodius , of its true name Konrad Rauchfuss 1530 with Frauenfeld - † in 1600 with Strasbourg), wire of Pierre Dasypodius, mathematics professor with Strasbourg, traced the plan of the famous clock of the cathedral of this city and wrote some description in its Heron mechanicus , 1580.

Biography

It served this science usefully, while publishing in Greek and Latin the first two books of Euclide, and the proposals of the three following books (Strasbourg, 1564, in-8°); one allots also a translation of the Sphériques of Théodose, and reflecting Optique to him of Euclide. Its Analysis geometrica sex libri Euclidis , Strasbourg, 1566, in-fol., is a work where it reduced in form Syllogisme the demonstrations of the Greek geometrician. The first and fifth books of this work belong to Christoph Herlin; Dasypodius did only the four others, and he proposed to publish in a body the Greek mathematicians; but death stopped its projects and removed it the April 26th 1600, at the 68 years age.

Dasypodius especially contributed to make known the collection of works of Antiquity gathered under the title of Petite Astronomy (in opposition to the Almageste, the large Astronomie), by establishing starting from various manuscripts (1572) the text (Greek) of the sphere moving of Autolycos de Pitane, the Sphere of Théodose of Tripoli, etc

It is on its drawings that in 1580 the famous clock of the cathedral of Strasbourg was made, which passed a long time for most beautiful from Europe, and from which it gave description in its Héron mathematicus , Strasbourg, 1580, in-4°.
