Conon de Béthune

Conon de Béthune is a Trouvère born towards 1150 in Artois, and died in 1220 with Constantinople. He is the son of Robert V of Béthune.

Famous for its love songs and of crusade, it takes part in the III {{E}} and IV {{E}} Croisades in which it holds an important political role. He writes also a satire attacking those which adapt the funds gathered to finance these crusades.

He introduces into the courteous cycle the image of the crusader leaving that which he likes. Its compositions are characterized by a vigorous style.
