The Institut of town planning of Paris (IUP) is an research institute and of formation of third cycle in the fields of the Urbanisme, the Aménagement and the territorial Développement. Attached to the University of Paris XII the Valley-of-Marne of Creteil since 1972, the IUP is resulting from the School of the High Urban Studies founded in 1919 by Henri Sellier and Marcel Poëte.

Its 25 associated research professors and professionals are divided in two research laboratories: Urban life and the Research center on space, transport, the environment and the local institutions (C.R.E.T.E.I.L.).

Currently, the IUP accommodates more than 300 students (including 74 registered doctorands).

Currently, the IUP accommodates more than 300 students (including 74 registered doctorands). With the introduction of the master, these manpower will increase appreciably.

The Institute is happy to accommodate students of Europe and rest of the world, in particular of China, but also of the Close relation and Middle-East, Latin America, Brazil, etc

The reform of Master of the Institute of Town planning of Paris

From the re-entry of September 2005, the whole of the formations of the Institute of Town planning of Paris will be gathered within the master " Town planning and territoires" .

This master comprises three mentions:

a mention " Urbanisme" , which replaces the three and DEA " Town planning and its territoires" and, in first year, the level of control integrates. After a first year general practitioner, the two last six-month periods of the master are organized in courses sets of themes chosen by the students with their tutor. Each course allows the development of a professional course comprising a training course and of a course seeks in particular comprising the drafting of a report and preparing with the doctorate.

a mention " City and mobilité" , developed in partnership enters the Institute of Town planning of Paris, the French Institut of town planning (IFU, Université of Paris VIII), the University of Marne-the-Valley and the National school of the Highways Departments. This mention directed towards research comprises a speciality " Transport and mobilités" who replaces the current DEA " Transports".

a mention " Geography and géomarketing" organized by the department of geography of the University Paris 12.
