Connection of road signs in France
In the field of the road signs of marking out in France, a connection is a course directed of a pole classified departure towards a classified pole of arrival . It is considered that there are no connections between not classified poles.
The starting pole and the pole of arrival are called poles ends of the connection.
Principle of unicity
In theory, a connection borrows one course. This course corresponds to that used for the majority of the vehicles of the category concerned of the starting pole towards the pole of arrival:- in open country, the choice is made, in general, on I' the fastest route;
- in urban environment, the choice is done according to the Traffic organization .
Classification of the connections and the networks
The purpose of the concept of class of connection is to limit the length of the connections to a realistic measure. The connections are gathered to form networks.
Regulate levelling
The classification of a connection results in the levelling of the classes of the two poles ends to the weakest class. Thus a pole of class III, in its connection with a pole of class II, is regarded as class II.This rule leads so that, in the connections with white poles, the green poles are compared to white poles.
Classification of the connections
The connections of classes C and D are known as white connections; The connections of classes Z, has and B are known as green connections.
The classification of the green connections is the ministerial classification object.
Types of connections
By convention, one names:- white network : the supporting whole of the ways of the white connections;
- farming network : the supporting whole of the ways of the green connections;
- Network classified : the whole of the networks farming and white;
- Network not classified : the remainder of the network.
Maximum length of the connections
The maximum length of the connections is fixed according to the lowest level of the two poles ends (application of the rule of levelling on the levels and not to the classes) and of the distance between these poles.Definition of the distance
The distance of a pole to another is the run time, expressed in fifteen minutes, of the connection.It is given by the formula:
where
- D is the distance in km of the starting pole to the pole of arrival. D must be counted starting from the center of the poles;
- V is the mean velocity, in km/h, usual of the course. One will not confuse V with speed in Rush hour or off-peak hour.
Calculation of distance
The calculation of distance being at the base of the decision to accept or draw aside a connection because its length, a great flexibility exists, related to the rather important latitude left in the choice from speeds take into account.Calculations of distance are translated on a chart of the distances.
Criteria of maximum distance
If NR is the approximate level lowest of those of the poles of ends, the maximum distance between these poles is fixed in the following table:
Regulate screen
When several of the same poles importance follow one another one can consider as the first occults the following for an observer located before him, from where the name of rule of screen : When there exists D years a given direction several successive poles of the same class (after application of the rule of levelling), it is considered that the first pole constitutes a reference mark sufficient for I' user wanting to reach the second, and so on.
Regulate domination
The phenomenon of domination translates the way in which the users feel, remotely, a pole located near a more important pole. It is about an attenuation of the rule of screen.
