Connect of Petropolis
The connects of Petropolis of the House of Orleans-Bragance is formed by the family members imperial Brazilian who go down from dom Pierre d' Alcantara of Orleans-Bragance (1875-1940), prince of the Grão-Para then prince of Orleans-Bragance.
In the beginning, the princes resulting from this branch were the first in the line of succession to the Brazilian throne. However, those lost their dynastic rights when the first of their members, dom Pierre d' Alcantara, contracted a morganatic union with the Czech countess Elisabeth Dobrzensky de Dobrzenicz (1875-1951) and thus given up the Brazilian succession (1908). From now on, the titles attached to this branches were officially limited to those of " princes and of princess of Orleans-Bragance" (with row of royal highness).
The imperial heritage thus passed to the younger brother of dom Pierre d' Alcantara, dom Louis of Orleans-Bragance (1878-1920), prince of the Grão-Para, like with his descent, called later " Branch of Vassouras " of the imperial family.
However, the oldest son of dom Pierre d' Alcantara, dom Pierre Gaston of Orleans-Bragance (1913), called in question the acts of renunciation of his father and tried to be made recognize as chief of the imperial House. Despite everything, majority of the Brazilian monarchists and chiefs of the foreign dynasties forever recognized prince Pierre Gaston…
Today, the two branches of the imperial family of Brazil ceased being opposed and the dynastic question does not divide any more the last Brazilian monarchists.
