Biography

Alan Greenspan grew with Manhattan (New York) in the district of Washington Heights. Only sons born in 1926, his/her parents divorce shortly after his birth. His/her mother the pupil alone, working as saleswoman in a store of piece of furniture. His/her father is Stockbroker (stockbroker) to Wall Street and writes a book in 1935 the growth returns that it dedicates to him.

In 1943, graduate of its school the George Washington Hight School , it escapes the Conscription for medical reasons and pushing back the entry at the university spends two years as professional musician in the group of Henry Jerome .

To the autumn 1945, it returns to the business school, of accountancy and finance of the Université of New York. It obtains its control in economy in spring 1948. During its studies, it is brought to work to join the two ends in various activities of which a station with the National Industrial Conference Board .

It then continues its studies with the Columbia University, which it will give up without being graduate. However NYU will grant to him a doctorate in economy in 1977 without defense . He was a friend of Ayn Rand and is defined Républicain Libertarien.

In 1967, it is implied in the public life of the the United States by integrating the team of countryside of Richard Nixon candidate Républicain into the presidency.

From August 11th, 1987 to January 31st, 2006, he was the president of the Federal fund of the United States. He was named at this station by Ronald Reagan then approved at his station by the republican and democratic following presidents. In 2004, George W. Bush re-elects it to serve one 5th and last mandate. It yields its station on February 1st, 2006 to Ben Bernanke.

Although it occupies a key position with regard to the management of the economy of the country, its activities are rather technical and generally do not deserve a press coverage. However, since the population in the United States is interested in the purse, its image is associated with financial success. For this reason, the American media often covered its remarks, which are incomprehensible most of the time with the common run of people.

Alan Greenspan is Commandeur of the Légion of honor. He is married since 1997 with the journalist of the NBC Andrea Mitchell.

He is a former member of the Bohemian Club. He took part in the Bilderberg conference of 2002.
