The configuration of match (of the opposition), indicates the general aspect that revêt confrontation.

It describes the special character of the opposition to come or in progress. More exactly, it describes the nature of confrontation and the elements constituent (balance of the involved forces, opposition of styles, given on the preceding meetings between the protagonists in question, etc).
