Confessionnalism (running literary)
The term of confessionnalism refers to a kind of poetry marking with the the United States in the Années 1960 and 1970. This name is still employed today with the the United States, but generally with a pejorative connotation, to indicate poems making state of personal experiences in a neglected style.
The classified poets as confessionnalists draw their inspiration from their lived personal. Often main in the art of the Versification, their main subject of exploration lies in their own life, frequently using their personal traumatisms like engine of the intensity of their works. Among the poets appeared in the Années 1950, two of largest representing confessionnalism are Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton. Good number of works of John Berryman are considered as confessionnalists, and Robert Lowell is unanimously recognized like the uncontested Master of this current. One finds moreover a relationship obvious with the confessionnalism in works of the poets of the Beat generation of the Années 1950 and 1960, in particular Allen Ginsberg.
Many poets confessionnalists explore in their works of the topics related to the Folie. Even if the majority of the confessionnalists of the Years 1950 and 1960 knew themselves and were attended, they never sought to be identified within a distinct literary current. Name “Confessionnalisme” was worked out and applied to this movement in the Années 1970.
