Conference of Poissy
From September 9th to 26th 1561, is held the conference known as of Poissy . In order to maintain peace religious in France, Catherine de Médicis brings together there 46 catholic prelates, 12 protesting ministers of religion and forty theologists.
The social disagreement and the political conflicts characterize the competition between the two camps. But the discussions which are held with the conference relate to theological controversies. Theodore de Bèze exposes the doctrines of the reformed Church to it. The cardinal of Lorraine obtains that the debate concentrates on the nature of the Eucharistie: “At the time of does this celebration, how Christ express her presence? ” It is on this question that the agreement stumbles on September 26th.
In order to continue the negotiations, Michel of Hospital then suggests with the queen mother inviting delegations restricted with the Château of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer. But on October 14th their assembly separates without to have found compromise. The Catholic church did not convince and the reformed Church was not recognized by the royal authority.
