Second European conference on the durable European cities organized 6 with the October 8th 1996 with Lisbon (Portugal) under the aegis of OECD.

Gathering 1.000 representatives of local and regional authorities of all the' Europe and North Africa, this conference has made it possible to inform the participants of the' evolution of the Agendas 21 buildings in 35 countries Europeans and of the progress made since the first conference which' had taken place in May 1994 with Aalborg (Denmark).

The participants in this conference also approved an headed document Of the Charter to the practice which, by basing on the experiments lived at the local level as reported and discussed within the 26 work groups of the conference and fascinating in consideration the recommendations and the principles included in the charter Aalborg, defines a new strategy aiming at “making Europe a more attractive place to invest and work” and articulates the principles of action and approaches to be implemented to design and apply a Diary 21 room.

At the time of this conference the advertisement is made creation and launching of a Service of information on the European good practices. This new service, developed by Euronet and ICLEI, offers a Database on the environmental good practices of the European local authorities, the guides sets of themes and the general documents on the Sustainable development.
